Come on Feel The Noise – Rock of Ages Original Broadway Cast Recording

First, the important information:
New Line Records just hammered the in-store release of the Original Broadway Cast Recording of five-time Tony Award nominated “ROCK OF AGES.” For those of you not in the know, Rock of Ages is the new Broadway musical starring American Idol finalist Constantine Maroulis . Set in 1987 in a legendary Sunset Strip rock club, a small-town girl meets a big-city dreamer and they fall in love to the greatest metal songs of the 80’s. The musical is an arena-rock love story told through the mind-blowing, face-melting hits of Journey, Bon Jovi, Styx, Reo Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Foreigner, Twisted Sister, Poison, Asia, Whitesnake and more.
Tracklisting
Just Like Paradise / Nothin’ But A Good Time
Sister Christian
We Built This City / Too Much Time On My Hands
I Wanna Rock
We’re Not Gonna Take It
Heaven/More Than Words / To Be With You
Waiting For A Girl Like You
Wanted Dead Or Alive
I Want To Know What Love Is
Cum On Feel The Noize / We’re Not Gonna Take It (Reprise)
Harden My Heart / Shadows Of The Night
Here I Go Again
The Final Countdown
Any Way You Want It / I Wanna Rock (Reprise)
High Enough
I Hate Myself For Loving You / Heat Of The Moment
Hit Me With Your Best Shot
Can’t Fight This Feeling
Every Rose Has Its Thorn
Oh Sherrie
The Search Is Over
Don’t Stop Believin’
And now, my thoughts:
I wanted to like this CD, and I have to say, it was a very good thing the days I listened to it I was in the company of very good friends that like Broadway musicals and theater. (Hat tip to Greg and Cathy!)
And I did like it. Sort of. I mean what’s not to like? It has songs from my youth, many of which I still listen to either on my iPod, or on the local Classic Rock radio station. I’m also a fan of really good cover bands, so I thought since this was Broadway, I’d have the best of the best cover bands performing the songs of my youth.
In some cases I did. In others, not so much.
One of the big things I found very frustrating was just as I was getting into a song, it switched to another in a medley or just stopped altogether. My friends kindly pointed out to me that that’s how it is done in musical theater. So I gave that a pass.
But it was still very frustrating.
The other thing that I found annoying was the music was used not so much to hear those songs again, but because they signify plot points in the show. I have yet to see the show (When it makes it’s way to Orlando I’m hoping to!) but until I do, it’s hard not to be confused because I don’t know fully what the context is. I saw a small snippet from the Tonys this past year and I have to say, it looked good.
Real, real, good. Kind of campy, just like the 80’s.
If you like Broadway musicals and you are a fan of the 1980’s, I think you will enjoy this CD. If you have already seen the performance, you will enjoy it more I think. I have a feeling you will also want to see the performance when it comes to your town.
I do.
A very good friend summed this up by saying: “This reminds me of The Wedding Singer on speed.” I have to agree with her.

Live the Dream! Become a Pirate at The Pirate’s League!
Last week, Scamp and I were given the opportunity to head out to the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World to become pirates and join Jack Sparrow’s crew!
Seeing as we had planned to go out to Disney anyway, we jumped at the chance. So while my husband and Spiff tore off to ride some rides, we sauntered into The Pirates League to take up the pirate way of life!
We started by trying to figure out what our pirate names are. By using a scientific method, some dice, a locked box and a wheel (and a book to look things up in!), we quickly ascertained what our pirate names are.
Meet Hector Dreadfoote.
Meet Bettie Tackrash.
Then we got down to business. Makeup was applied, stories swapped, and hearty cheers of “Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate’s life for me!” were heard as we watched the transformations take place:
We took the pirate oath, and then we were told we could go into a super secret room. A room only pirates go into. Holding Hector’s hand, we went in..
…and it was in here where our transformations were complete.

We had the time of our life and once we solved the secret code and went on an adventure we spent the rest of the day roaming the parks as swashbuckling pirates. You haven’t LIVED until you have spent the day at Disney looking like a pirate!
The Pirates League offers 3 packages— All packages include a sword and sheath, earring and eye patch, tattoo, exclusive pirate coin necklace, map case folder, and a personalized pirate oath!

Created with flickr slideshow.
I met up with some friends after we left The Pirates League. One of my friends asked me was it worth it to do this. I said at least once in your life you absolutely, totally should. It was fun for me, it was fun for my son, and it was like Halloween in August. Actually, they have helped me decide what I’m dressing up as for Halloween this year!
Special thanks to Charles Stovall, Erin Catalano, and the entire Disney Media team. You guys are wonderful, and thank you for this opportunity!
